Navigating the complexities of adulthood, financial stability is always at the forefront of our minds. Whether it’s planning for the future, managing day-to-day expenses, or simply to enjoy life without constant financial stress, the importance of a fair wage cannot be overstated. That’s why I was genuinely thrilled to hear about Hobby Lobby’s recent decision to increase their minimum wage to $19.25 per hour, which went into effect on October 1st. Perfect timing with the holidays just around the corner, too!

In a world where the cost of living seems to be perpetually on the rise, this move by Hobby Lobby is not just commendable—it’s necessary. For many retail workers, earning a living wage has been a long-standing challenge. The retail industry is notorious for its low wages, and employees often find themselves juggling multiple jobs just to make ends meet. Hobby Lobby’s decision to raise their minimum wage is a significant step in the right direction, setting a new standard for the industry.

In 2019, Hobby Lobby became one of the first major retailers to set a minimum wage that was higher than the federal wage. The company’s CEO says,

A pillar of our success is taking care of our employees.

He also went on to brag about giving their employees a work-life balance.

For decades, we have closed our stores on Sundays, and at 8:00 p.m. the rest of the week, to help employees balance their work and personal lives…

In conclusion, Hobby Lobby’s wage increase is a win for retail workers everywhere. It’s a step towards a more equitable and sustainable future, where employees are valued and compensated fairly for their contributions. Here’s to hoping that this is just the beginning of a broader movement towards better wages and working conditions for all.
