Team USA Women’s Gymnastics locked up GOLD in the team competition but now former Olympians are throwing shade. Retired Team USA Gymnast MyKayla Skinner took to social media throwing shade saying the following.. “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. A lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic.”
It seems like Skinner is leaning into the training regiment she had during the Márta [Károlyi] era. Plus you have to consider what has changed since the Netflix Athlete A documentary dropped and how the gymnasts are treated and trained. MyKayla has tried to clarify her statement “So anyway, sorry for anything that got out of context or seemed hurtful. That is never my intention. And seriously, throughout the video, I was so pumped for the girls, and it was so fun watching trials and doing a live with everybody.”
Seems like a case of a back in my day we did it differently or a get off my lawn style comment.
